Promote it like it's 1987.

Mega Man 9 was a download-only game, so John's team gave the press something to hold: an NES-style box with era-correct cover art and a discount sticker, and inside, a cartridge holding a disc of art assets.

Only a handful ever reached collectors. The campaign later turned up in Amazon Prime's documentary Video Game Box Art: The Stories Behind the Covers, and John still calls it one of his favorite Capcom campaigns.

M1UP = Mark One Up

In a game, a 1UP is an extra life.

John's nickname for the company is M1UP: Mark One Up, Mark a New Life. It's a tribute to his stepdad, Mark, who encouraged him to start it.
